Our Goal To raise as much cash as possible for cancer research by taking part in the Plymouth to dakar banjul Challenge ( AKA Dakar and Bust ) in a 1989 lhd 1 litre VW polo Coupe costing £100. That's over 3500 miles. The rules are as follows.
| 1: |
Competing cars must cost less than £100. |
| 2: |
Maximum budget for the vehicle Challenge
preparation: £15 |
| 3: |
Once the Challenge is underway, there
will be no form of formal assistance from the organisers in any way - Teams are ON THEIR
OWN. |
| 4: |
All of vehicles that make the full
distance to Tashkent, Bamako and Banjul MUST be
handed over to the Challenge Control Group in the appropriate jurisdiction, to
be auctioned under controlled conditions in aid of local Charities. Failure to
comply may result in legal action by local Customs agencies against guilty
participants. |

All vehicles must be LEFT-HAND DRIVE for the Banjul Challenge!!
LHD is the
preference for the Timbuktu and Silk Road Challenges, but not
essential. |
|
The above rule is necessary because The Gambia is a left-hand-drive country. RHD vehicles are not
really welcome in The Gambia. The enormous popularity of this event has meant
that we have had to introduce this ruling in order to ensure that the Challenge
continues to receive the warm welcome extended by the Government and People of
The Gamabia.
RHD cars may not be permitted entry to The Gambia or
may be subject to import duties and disposal charges |
The countries we will travel through- Uk France - Spain, Giberalter Then
The Banjul Challenge heads South through Morocco, Western
Sahara, Mauritania and Senegal, arriving in Banjul in The Gambia. The route
travels mostly on tarmac roads, but the highlight is the two-day crossing of the
Sahara Desert. The journey is approximately 3700 miles.
