Welcome to Team on-board-video.com T10835 Dakar Challenge Entry for Jan 8th 2010

Welcome to our Dakar Challenge site, part fo our
main site www.on-board-video.com.
We have set up this small site to tell you about our plymouth Dakar Challenge,
who we are why we are doing it and how we are doing.
So let me introduce my self. My name is Gez I am part of team
on-board-video.com and will be taking part in the event. My partner in Grime and
team mate is Dave.
So how did we come about deciding to do the event. Well it began a few months
ago, I had broken down on my way to a job in anglesey and lucky for me it was
100 miles into my trip and on Daves doorstep.
Well we sat around waiting for the rac and joked about lucky it was only 100
miles away good job it wasnt further to which I commented “yes on the way to
Dakar would have been a bugger” and we both laughed. We had both heard of the
event and as we have a strange sense of humour seen the funny side.
Well that got us Talking and we visited the website to see when the next
event was on www.plymouth-dakar.co.uk well we
could just about get a late entry in and decided it would be a good experience
and to do the event for charity would be even better.
Over the years I have lost a few members of family to Cancer as has dave so
we decided to make cancer research our chosen charity.
Hey ho ( Dave is AKA Grump Dwarf ) were off to Dakar well eventually we will
be, forms filled in and emailed and a quick acceptance from julian at
event H.Q , but Only if we could find a car that fell into the rules of the
event. it had to be left hand drive and cost us less than £100 and we were not
allowed to spend more than £15 gettign the car ready.
Tough challenge I hear you say , and you would be right as well. We searched
ebay, autotrader and lots fo other classifieds, when we came up with our little
gem of a car a 1989 left hand drive VW polo Coupe mot till march and 79 thousand
miles with history. Ok whats wrong with it i see your thinking. well not a great
deal a few minor bits and bobs that we can do and a paint job. Luckily dave can
paint ( Well last job he did for me took him 2 years , it was embarrasing
driving a half painted car ) so fingers crossed . and that is where our
adventure begins , see it here in all its detail with photos , video and more as
it happens Oh and please donate its a good cause and we need your support.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS MAY MEAN WE RESCHEDUAL FOR NEXT YEAR
FCO WARNING RE TERRORIST ATTACKS
We advise against all travel to the eastern and northern provinces of
Mauritania - Tiris Zemmour, Adrar, Tagant, and Hodh el Chargui - due to the
continuing high threat from terrorism throughout the country, This includes all
areas bordering Mali, Western Sahara and Southern Algeria. We advise against
all travel to the western provinces of Dakhlet-Nouadhibou and Inchiri, after the
kidnapping of three Spanish aid workers in November 2009. This includes the
road from the port of Nouadhibou to Nouakchott. We advise against all but
essential travel to the rest of the country. We believe that terrorists
continue to plan attacks. These could be indiscriminate, including in places
frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers.
